Hi, are you going to do this service yourself? If so it may be better to have the car inspected by an indie first. To replace the items you mentioned no big problem. But servicing a car means a full inspection first. And I notice you said power steering oil and filter. The power steering has no filter.

I had a S280 on a 97 plate. They are a good solid car.
Don't forget the plugs.
Correct, and thats why I suggested an inspection first. If an expert checks and you do the work yourself, no problem. At least you have peace of mind.

Hi meri-gadi, have your car inspected properly first. Ive never heard of a Steering pump filter except on the newer 220 and 221 with Active Body control, which uses the same pump. I would question this? As for the spark plugs, nowadays they survive quite well, and again only a professional can give you advice simply by looking at them. Anyway good luck.:p

wot abt the timing chain tensioner???

what about the belt???

Also should the MAF sensor be cleaned even though car is running fine. Does have a very little Erratic Idle. needle jumps 100rpm in the revs when the car is idling

All my Mercs have had filters in the bottom of the reservoir, I never bothered changing one though!

I don't quite see what Eric is getting at by getting an 'expert' to look over the car, I think this is one of the biggest cons of 'servicing'. If you have enough mechanical nous to service your car then you should be able to spot things that aren't right. You don't have to be a Mercedes trained technician to spot oil leaking out of a gearbox or knackered bushes etc.
