I had a copy of the only key made... mislaid the original and the copy does not open the boot (bad copy) - can I get a key cut, based on the chassis number?

Thats ok if the locks have,nt been changed through the cars life.
As far as i,m aware a good locksmith could cut you a key from the lock barrel, your newly cut key that don,t fit is,nt worn, as your lost key was, thats probably the reason why it does,nt fit.
Take the key that does,nt fit to a locksmith and they can artifically wear the key for you had to have this done several times on old fords when the new key never fitted.

Possibly the reason the key doesnt 'fit' the boot lock is because the boot lock will be gummed up with dirt and debris as the key will never have been used in the lock..you need to spray copious amount of a quality penetrating oil into the lock and wiggle the key about until it works..

Hi thanks for the replies peoples...

I eventually got the boot lock open but I really want a 'clean' original as the orginal I lost worked nicely on all locks... The boot lock is probably clagged up yes... I will give that a go.

Thanks for the feedback
