hello
renewing bushes :?: on my 123 estate and wondered if anyone had replaced rear diff mounting, ie can it be lowered with a jack once the 4 bolts are undone without harming anything so that the two main bolts can be accessed??

Hi roundthebenz

Sorry it was not the intention to ignore you. I thought I had replied to this - I did prepare a response not sure what happened, may have been a brain fart.........

Never done it myself.

My research revealed the following which may or may not be helpful to you but will provide you with some late night reading

Hope these are helpful.

Thanks for the many links norman, interesting reading, however they dont describe the job I refer to. What Im calling a rear diff mount is obviously called something else!
I can only explain it as being a square shaped bracket with rubber insert, bolted to the rear end of the diff with two large bolts and is then bolted to the crossmember with four smaller bolts, more of a hanger?
Am I making any sense yet??

Hi

The rear diff mounting can be lowered with no problem if the four 13mm headed bolts are removed. Obviously keep some sort of jack under it to lower & raise it. Remove the two large bolts. Job done. Any body ready this & wanting to replace one or indeed both rear road springs. You should do the same. IE. Drop the diff down once you have removed both rear shockabsorbers. Springs will just pop in then & raise the back end of the diff back up with a jack.

Hope this helps

Regards
