have bought a genuine mercedes rebuild kit:
when carefully removing valve
(pressure relief valve?)
there is a small ball bearing supporterd by a narrow spring
beneath this there is a large ball bearing
i am unsure where this large ball bearing goes
does anyone have a schematic?
or know?

If I remember correctly the larger ball bearing goes under the bleed screw. If you haven't already taken it apart be very careful when you do so particularly if you are doing it when the unit is still fixed to underside of the car as the disc will fall out and there are four ways that it can go back in.

I have a copy of the manufacturers exploded diagram somewhere. Contact any Mercedes dealer and they will fax you a copy. I don't know where it will have sufficient detail to determine where each part goes. You only really need the small rubber O ring out of the kit.
