I have a problem with I think..... immobiliser/alarm ??

Car locks and unlocks (central locking) perfectly with the key fob to the drivers door receptor and tailgate receptor...then the fault appears - operation/fault is as follows...

Locking by fob - one indicator flash - car locked - no indicators flashing.
40 seconds later - all indicators operate (at normal speed) then after the 40 seconds have elapsed stop for 5 secs and then restart on the 40/5 secs cycle...again and again.

The indicators do not stop naturally at all. They can only be stopped by unlocking the car either manually (from passenger door) or by key fob to drivers door/tailgate receptor.

Locking the car manually via passenger door does not create this problem at all.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where to look and physical location please ?

Looks like you have found it alarm or immobiliser fault . If your lucky you might have a switch to turn the whole system off ,,some are in the glove box .

On my model there is no glovebox at all.
That said is there a way to locate and isolate the system. I realise this might be seen to defeat the purpose of the system but in essence that is what I am trying to do !!

So you know what ,,, i have never seen a W124 without a glove box . Thats the drop down door in the dashboard in .front of passenger

Now i have seen a W124 without a glove box . All down to the air bag location .And now as you said ,,the glove box is now taken up ..I think you will need to talk to an alarm fitter to get the alarm and immobilizer checked out . Dont go messing around in case you set off the airbag.

As far as I can gather it's original - but can't swear to it unconditionally. Will have a look at the manual you indicate on Google.
I have had many 124s over my classic car life and this is the first I have seen without a glove box.
I would be a bit nervous about taking it to an alarm specialist as he /she might apply modern thinking to a classic car.
At worst I may talk to my tame Mercedes Dealer parts manager who is very kind in confirming or complementing info from their infallible database and try and persuade him to give me some "electrical guidance"

Same as my W124. The original alarm on my cat was with the rectangular fob, 2 square buttons a light in the corner on my car. These were "mercedes" alarms but after factory fit.

You should hopefully have a small round key to disable the alarm, One key hole under the dash (of your pic) and one on the alarm horn in the engine bay.

if not, best to get it looked at by a reputable car alarm place.
