Hi - anyone got any pointers on these two queries?
First, the seat belt butler on the drivers side of my E320 Cab has stopped working. It was perfectly OK last time I used the car which was about a week ago, but nothing now. The passenger side is still fine.
Also, the water pump is making a slight squeaking sound - it's constant, not the screaching you get with a loose belt. Can it be lubricated somehow or is it on its way out? The head gasket was replaced recently - could it be anything to do with that?
Thanks for the help.

Are you sure that it is the pump and not the idler wheel underneath

The seat belt extender is easy but you have to remove the rear seats to remove the side panel, its a lot easier to work on than the coupe version anyway, the rear seat center arm rest has some bolts hidden inside but easy enough once found.
The belt extender is a simple mech really with some switches on it. Should be easy once all apart.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check the pump & see if it is the idler wheel.

An easy way is to use a large screwdriver as a stethoscope and put the handle to your ear and the bland on the components, do take care of the fan.

Though WD40 is not a lubricant you could spray a little into the wheell

If you're lucky, it may just need resetting. Slowly pull the arm out until it's fully extended. The triangle piece comes off the arm easily so just be ready for it (we dont want you going ar5e over tit  ) Once out, jump in, start up & put the belt on, it may all work OK. If not, probably new mechanism required.

Thanks to everyone for the replies - I've worked out the seat belt butler problem. Having driven the car in the dark, on getting out to re-fuel with the lights on, the buzzer didn't sound & I also realised that the interior light wasn't working. It slowly dawned on me that they are all connected to the door switch on the pillar & lo & behold when I fiddled with it it was sticking. Problem solved after a little WD40!
Still working on the water pump bit though.
