I recently had very loose shifter bushings replaced in my 1991 300sl
5-speed automatic trans. Before the replacement, I had trouble getting it into 5th gear, now, it bypasses 4th all the time. I cannot get it into 4th gear automatically or manually. I understand that the throttle/trans linkage controls pistons in the trans and this may be the cause of the problem. When passing on hwy, the trans delays several seconds and drops to 3rd-goes like hell but I'd rather have 4th gear!! Does anyone have any ideas? Thank You!! Jack. P.S. had kick-down switch checked. OK.

it sounds to me like there is a problem in valve chest in the box, which could be due to contamination in the system, possible if there was previous work done on the box the system may not have been flushed thouroughly and now one of the valves is clogged.
