Because the weather has been horrible up here i was TOLD to put on the hard top.

On Sunday we had a sunny dry day so managed it easy peasy smeared both seals on the top of the windscreen and on the front bottom edge of the hardtop with the dreaded petroleum jelly.

BUT it is leaking like a sieve from the top of the A pillar BOTH sides and landing on the seats - had a hot (heated seats) wet bum today - AAAAAAGHHH.

I guess i need a new seal(s) or is there a quick dirty fix?

If i am going to have to fit new seal(s) is this a b*****d of a job to do (instructions on how to do this appreciated) and do i need to replace both or if one which one?

needless to say the car was bone dry with the soft top on WIMMMIN!!!!

any help suggestions appreciated

thanks in anticipation

No sir you do not need new seals, just unscrew the strip under the front edge put some sealer between the strip and roof, and refit the screws.

You only need to go in 9" from each end , do not over tighten the screws so as to squeeze out all of the sealer.

Do not use power roof closing, use the hand locking tool to test

If you would like paper on it, just ask, but I am out all day Tues.

you are a marvel Malcolm i was going to PM you on this one just looked at the RU site and it looks like the car seal starts at the bottom of one A pillar goes up and across the horizontal rail and down the other A pillar but you are suggesting the problem is the hardtop seal not the seal on the car.

yes please any help especially written - and what sealer should i use - also never used the hand tool so need more help with that.

thanks again

Looking
The hardtop seal is all one piece and is £300 odd - Malcolm's solution is probably the best!

Hi Stats, when I had mine, though I did not have a leak, I did get much info on this from the US sites, they were 100% successful. Sinse I have had the MB program the same info is in there, this is what I have sent to David. anyone can have a coppy.

thanks for that Malcolm though it looks like that is a fix for the side seals which are not leaking as well as that it looks like the digram numbers and the text dont quite match though with a bit of thought you can renumber the diagrams so that they fit the text and instructions - can you tell me where you got this info please?

thanks in anticipation

All be it on a slightly different tack but still the same-ish issue, how do I stop water peeing in when the door has been opened from where the seals join at the point where the hardtop joins the A pillar?

IF i understand your post correctly you prob dont have the lecy windows that automatically drop down the window when you open the doors and close the window fully after you shut the door - so you need to do that manually - to seal the window properly - not sure if there is a retrofit option to make this happen automatically. Maybe Malcolm will come in here and give us the view of the Oracle yoooo hoooo Malcolm

Awesome Stuff

These videos blew me away i would expect them to do the same to you

R129 window adjustment official Mercedes video...

http://www.classic-roadster.de/albums/Filme-r129-demontage-tuer/R129E4.mpg

IF that does not impress you - go through all of the areas of this site and download videos (in English) for most mechanical, cockpit work (seats, roof, dashboard, windows, etc.)

My windows are the type that drop a bit then go up again when the door is closed. It might be that when the door is opened, water gets inside the seal and keeps dripping when the door is closed again.

I don't know - I'm just a bumb blonde!
