Got up this morning looking forward to a nice open top drive in my sl280. I pressed the soft top button, the windows went down the back went up the stow away cover opened, the windscreen catches tried to release and then nothing apart from a flashing operating switch obviously telling me there is a fault:( So I lowered the roof manually. I then tried to operate the roof again and nothing, the roll bar will also not raise, there are no warning lamps illuminating and I can hear relays clicking when operating the control switch. I have also checked the fuses in the boot and removed the spare wheel to gain access to the pump. The pump relay is clicking when the roll bar or soft top switches are operated but the pump is not running. I have now put the top back up manually. Am I right in thinking the pump has failed? The top has been used about 6 times since the removal of the hard top last week. Can these be repaired? any second hand ones out there guys? Help!!!

Doubt if the pump has failed, they are very reliable. It could be low on oil. Most likely to be a microswitch fault but there are many. Make sure all 4 locks are fully engaged with the roof up. Disconnect the battery. Test battery voltage & charge if ness. Leave battery off for 10 minutes & then reconnect. It may re set - may not. Also make sure both windows go down fully. There are also microswiches in the doors for the windows which are prone to fail. If still no joy, it may have to go on a diagnosis machine.

The fact that the roll bar does not work is the clue as the roof needs to know where it is before it will operate.

is your car a 129063 or 4

Check the fuse. It can overheat and be a porblem but not blow. Replace it even if it is not blown and see what happens.
