I have just bought this bravely at Classic auction. The self levelling doesnt and so there is no damping at the rear. Any tips on fixing this would be welcome. Are there any independant cosworth specialists in Dorset/Somerset border? Which component fails commonly? Can I switch to non-self levelling, by changing springs and dampers? Any help welcome

Two views on this, a) fix the existing SLS system b) junk it and fit a set of standard 190e springs. I guess it depends on how much you really need SLS or if you want to keep the car as original as possible. I'd just get the springs, if you want to see if the SLS can be fixed then visit a Citroen dealer as it uses the hydroneumatic design of CX, BX etc. Chances are the 'gas' has escaped, new/recond spheres and some new LHM fluid will proberly fix it.

Agreed replace the SLS with new coils and dampers, unless your dont mind spending the dosh to get it sorted, personally I would stick with keeping it original.
find the fault, get a price from MB tell em your trade, you will get discount, and fit the parts yourself.

Check all the threads on here about W124 estate rear self-levelling

Normally it's the spheres that fail and (for a W124) there are two at £80 each. I'd leave the car standard and fix what's there
