I had some useful information returned regarding my previous query about a water leak, thank you.  On closer examination I found it to be the radiator which has now been replaced.  However in my quest to find the cause of that problem I noticed that the cooling fan behind the rad is very noisy, even when just freewheeling with the engine running.  I am told it needs replacing because the bearing has gone.  It doesn't bother me too much and I don't feel inclined to sheel out more cash just yet.  Any ideas on how I can silence it?

Uncanny David! I noticed the same thing when I replaced my rad over the weekend, for a similar water leak mystery. Mercs are just SO consistent!

Takes a braver man than me to hold the fan with the engine running though - I like having fingers!

I get a bit of a rattling noise when mine is freewheeling as well, it cools the engine ok so sometimes its best to leave well alone i think!
