hi guys. My 190e (1993) has 111k on the clock with full MB history but i'm having problems in traffic temp goes up and up.....into the red if i dont turn the heater on full blast but returns to normal when moving. on the last service the fan switch and fuse were replaced but it still heats up too much for my liking. I have been advised to bridge the connecter so the fan is constantly on whenever the engine is switched on. Does this cause any problems with the running of the car or cause any damage to the engine/fan? PLEASE HELP! I love my car but its driving me crazy, hate to see that needle approaching the red!!!!! thanks

you say the fan switch and fuse were replaced,

does your fan lock in when your temperature hits the red zone,if not you may have a faulty electromagnetic fan clutch

then the possibilities include-

faulty thermostat

also is your antifreeze/water mixture in correct proportions, too high a propotion of antifreeze to water can cause overheating.(the max should be a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze/water.)

a blocked radiator core-to check if this is the case, start the car,let it idle to operating temperature, then look for cold spots on the outside surface of the rad.
you can do this by feeling the outside surface of the rad where the cooling fins are.
a good radiator should be uniformly warm.

a faulty, blocked one, will have cold areas or spots.

hope this helps
