Hi, I have a 91 190. You know the plastic strips that run down either side of my roof and around the glass, well mine have gone a yukky gold/bronze colour.  I was speaking with someone and it's common across the range on that period of MB's.  I want nice black ones, I was wondering if the earlier models trim would fit as they are made from something different and dont fade the same.  If I buy new ones of the same type they will go as well.  I have seen a car with replacement ones on and after a year they have gone brown.  What can I do?

190 - Roof strips

Nice advert but it doesn't answer my question.  Can I use the earlier models roof strip? How about the strips around the windscreens, will they fit.  I dont see how visiting your website will enable me to have black strips.  There wasnt any technical pages there telling me this.

190 - Roof strips

Hullo

Your reply made me laugh, so here the info as I see it, and guess what!! There will be an advert at the end.

The first 201's\190, the trim was screwed to the side of the A pillar. Yours should be just a tight push fit onto clips. The thing to do is to grab the trim tightly in the middle of the A pillar between the wing and roof. Not at the bottom as if I am right you have to watch it doesn't come out and catch you by supprise and scratch the wing or bonnett. Grab the middle section & pull fairly hard. The middle should move and the bottom part will stay put. Then just gently pull the rest of it out working through out the length of the trim. If this is the case the black ones should fit, and is a reverse procedure, except make sure the end next to the wing is fitted first.

You may want to run your fingers down the black rubber on the inner edge of the trim closest to the wind screen & feel if there is any screws.

If your still worried contact me @ www.mercedesservicing.com and I will go out to the workshop and have a look.

Regards
Andy

PS I might have some of those black trims your hankering after.

190 - Roof strips

That is a well structured answer.  Technical info, nice detailed description on what to do, and then a URL at the bottom.  Not got a problem with that.  If somone else has the same problem and browses through the boards they know exactly what to do and who to call.  As opposed to reply of http:\\hyperlink.com, which didnt remotely help me.  Everyone problem there seems to be an answer of visit this link, which is no help really.  It makes you wonder if they have some YT trainee surfing the net all day waiting for someone to post a question, you dont need to know about Mercs to give there replies!!!  Sorry if I have offeneded anyone it's just that it's begining to annoy me.
