Please can someone help.  I drive a 190E Auto { 130K on clock} normally runs great, but if left for a couple of days, or if the weather is damp it runs like a bag of nails !!.  This is even after dealer tune up, which highlighted some HT leads needed replacement but nothing else.  The distributor seems OK, but someone did say 190's suffer from a damp problem ?

John.

Hi
I have a 1993 190 2.0 auto and had the same problem
I have cured the problem by simply un screwing the distributor cap and spraying the INSIDE with WD40 ,  a simple wet start cure , that I picked up working at a Ford dealership for too many years.

Agree totally with the above. 190's (well mine anyway) is fitted with a belly pan to stop water splashing up into the engine.

Have you checked that all the HT leads and Distributor cap have a snug fit?, as they shouldnt really let damp in at all.

Hi all,

I would try the WD40. Whatch out if you have the later distributor cap with the screw on ends. They tend to seize. If they snap off then your in some trouble. But its been my experience that some do and some don't. If yours is one of these that don't respond to the ole WD40, then you will be trying to no avail to try and cure it. I hope I am wrong. But when we get these problems in. Course its as good as gold. Till you give it back to the customer. Then it ok for a couple of days till its good and damp and left for a couple of days. Then missfiring till it warms up.

Hope its some help.

Regards

have to agree if I had a fiver for every car that worked fine then started playing up as soon as you give it back I would be quite well off. Well thats from my experience of Fords for many years (one of the reasons I've Never owned one)

One thing to note is that if you get the distributor cap off ok (mine is the screw on type) Put some Copper grease on the treads of the screws , helps to stop the  treaded holes in the alloy distributor coroding and making it a whole lot easyer to remove in the futre , a simple but worth while thing.........

White.

did the very same with mine, a spot of LM grease or some copper slip saves a lot of grief later on!
