Just bought my first ever mercedes, just an old 190D.
Problem is now I have paid for it and traveled half of England to get it, I notice more a knock noise which seems to come from the rear and only does it on acceleration and when you take you foot off the accelerator. The quickers you do it the louder the knock.
My father said it could be the prop.
Anyone had this exact fault, only I have either been tucked up with a large bill, or it could be something small.
HELP, other that this I am a convert into the luxury of the car, such a smooth ride and in comfort.
Oh lord won't help me, with my mercedes benz.....

thanks for getting back to me, I guess I will have to have her up on the stands and get underneath for a good check over. I have looked through the Haynes MAnual tonight and actually found a propeller shaft Fault Diagnosis for "Clonk on acceleration & deceleration" as either worn front or rear flexible rubber couplings, coupling bolts loose, worn universal joint, worn front to rear section connection splines or clamping nut loose. I hope to id the faulty part.

Anyone know where I can source new parts for 190D website ?
Would mercedes still stock parts and are they priced ok ?

I know this thread is rather old but just to help people on future searches, the knocking is more often the rear sub-frame rubbers. The job costs about £100 including the rubber bushes. There is free play in the diff and cv joints which people often confuse as being the problem. I know someone who replaced his prop, diff, axles and cv joints but still had the problem!
