Hello,

I have recently purchased a 190e 2.0 (1992).

It is completely standard except for a set of clear indicators.

I do have a few problems however.....

1) Dash lights dont light up, I checked the appropriate
fuse and replaced it only for it to "blow" again...

2) OSR electric window... goes down ,won't come back up.

3) flat spot in acceleration when car has warmed up.

Any help appreciated...

PS: I dont know the name of the colour of my car...
It is as sort of deep purple...?

1) sounds like there is a short circuit which is blowing the fuse repeatedly.

2)the electric window switch is probably nackered-best thing to do would be to do test-remove faulty switch and swap switch from the other  window which is working-that way you will know for  sure that it is a faulty switch or not-won't cost you either!!.

WOW
I can't belive this I hade very simular problems with my 1993 2.0 190E when I first got it..

On my car is was the window switch not the motor or mechanism , i got a new switch from my local stealership for less than a tenner.

The Dash lights on my car wouldn't work , but it turned out that it was the dimmer in the instrument cluster... I went to a salvage yard and got another cluster for 20 quid.. sorted.

When I first got my car it ran very badly (obviously not looked after) . First I changed the spark plugs (use ordinary plugs not those bosch super 4's or simular , many people on other forums have had problems using them in 190's)
.... then the plug leeds and distributor cap ... then fuel and oil filter (oil change as well) ... basically gave the car its 1st proper service it'd had for a long while....

That sorted my car

I have heard of people having simular problems caused by a faulty ignition coil on these cars as well ..

If in doubt get one of those mobile tunner guys to give your motor a tune up ... If they can't get the mixture right (its too weak) you may have an air leak somewhere in the induction/vacuum side.....

As for the colour I don't know the name but I would like any other colour than my white car (it gets dirty just too quickly)

After thinking If the flat spot only occurs when the car is warmed up .. it is probably either the plugs (existing ones either knackered or too cold a heat type)
OR
as you have a 92 model it is probably fitted with a cat and will be set to run very ritch during warm up to warm up the cat quicker.... It may be that you have an air leak somwhere weakening the mixture after warm up...

ANY OTHER IDEAS ANDY.....

YEP join the 147 club

Heres a bit of info
DID you know there are 5 diferent colours of 147
147 & 147A & 147B ect.... depending on what factory your car came out of ... they all had slightly different paint mixes.. so merc went to the bother of making a formula for each one available ..... now you don't get that level of exactness from FORD or any other manufacturer...

147's a strange white it has

Lots of white in it (obviously)
A bit of dark red in it
A bit of mid Blue in it
and
A bit of Black !

Now that shows much of an anorack I am....

I Still cant spell mind you though...

Hi all,

There could be a number of reasons for the fuse blowing the illumination bulb. But IF white correct then pop to the local dealer the dash dimmer is about £12for a brand new one.

The colour is called "Bornite"

The window is either a switch or motor playing up. You could check the wiring where it goes through the B post as well.

Don't let one of the mobile tuners on it. Take it to somebody who knows the product. And don't just start throwing parts at it. Usually it cost more that way than if you had had it proffesionlally looked at.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Am considering replacing the copper Bosch plugs with platinum. Engine doesn't run as smooth as I would like it to do. Have read somewhere that platinum work better with catalysts. Any experience with platinums?

Cheers

i think platinum plugs can be expensive and waste of money.

if your car handbook ot technical data suggests you fit hthe platinum plugs, only then i would.

Hi

These engines where never the type where you  could rest a coin on its edge, on the rocker cover. If you don't have a missfire I wouldn't bother with the expensive plugs. But you never know they might help. But really I agree with Sunil, they are expensive for any gain you might get.

I think I'll have a try, and let you know.
If that doesn't help, there are also the Iridium ones....!

Cheers!

PS
Also had to change all high voltage wiring, distrib cap and rotor when I first got it because it had starting probs. Weren't changed either.

I have Bosch platinum super 4's in my motor and she runs like a dream... BUT I get them very cheap ...as I was in the trade and most of my friends still are..

I have read on other MB forums that these plugs have caused problems for some merc owners...

I can't say they made any performance increase to my car.... as Andy said .. If you've got to pay full price dont bother , go for a good set of double coper cored plugs..

White190,
What type Super 4s do you have?
I believe the 190 2.0E engine is the same as in the 200E
I've got standard copper Bosch H7DCO ones now.

Cheers

vronsky,

mine are h7dco plugs on my 190e-1.8 litre-the o at the end stands for deviation from basic version h7dc plugs-you will notice that the central electrode is much thicker on the h7dco compared with basic h7dc-therefore a fatter spark, stronger is possible.
