190E 2.0 Ltr Automatic Cutting Out

I have a 190E 2.0 ltr automatic with 118K on the clock.

Engine cuts out when running hot or from cold. At motorway speeds engine normally automatically restarts OK. Around town, car stalls, but usually restarts OK by turning the ignition off then on. On one occassion, would not restart so called the AA. No current from coil, but when test equipment connected to amplifier/modifier the engine fired up OK. Happening more frequently now. I've had the car for 15 months and the first 12 months were faultless. Garages unable to help as the problem is not solid.

Any ideas would be appreciated - I'm completely non technical.

The first test that I would do is to start it up, wedge the throtle so engine goes about 1.5k and tap ECU and electrics quite hard, move all cables and tap around the fuses etc.. see what happens.

If stalls at different speeds, locations etc - fuel pump relay or fuel pump could well be faulty.
