190E auto 'box Q

my autobox seems to be leaking ... smoke burning on exhaust after a run, quite a wide 'stain' down the underside of the car. took it to garage, who changed the g'box sump gasket and put some kind of sealant around where the filler pipe goes into the 'box. but ... still leaking!! are there other well-known areas/points for this 'box to leak from? gears change fine and smooth, actual fluid loss is not that much but it's still worrying. any tips/ideas would be most welcome, thanks.

Hi

You will always have a leak if you put seleant on any rubber seal. I would suggest that the seal on the dipstick is replaced if that is where you suspect the oil is coming from & DON'T put any sealant on it.

aye ... well the latest is that the dipstick tube (+seal of course) needs replacing. hopefully this will cure the leak. now all i have to do is find the source of that damn noise on take off/left lock (actually it's started doing it in a straight line now) and it'll be a perfect benz.
