190E - Broken Sunroof

I'm thinking of buying a 1993 190E but the sunroof handle broke off whilst being demonstrated (closed) - now the roof is partially open. Is this a big problem to fix? Haynes manual not very useful.

Just buy a new handle and fit it on,haynes manual will only refer you to a dealer.

I know this sounds silly but it depends why the handle broke..

If it was just because it was old and worn then no problem it will cost a couple of quid to fix

If it broke because the roof was jammed and the owner tried forcing it then it could well be a big job and not one for the faint hearted

Sunroof opened easily and slid back, but when turning the handle to raise the back end it was very stiff, hence the broken handle. Is it possible to lubricate and ease the mechanism if the plate surrounding the handle is removed - only one screw from memory. Thanks Len

Best to get a new handle and try it again but do not force it this time and you may find the problem..
