Afternoon all, long time no speak!. I like the new site by the way, very nice.

Anyway, being a bit of a anorack, i hate having things on cars that are there, but dont work. The factory fit alarm is one of these things. Originally i thought that it should be armed and disarmed by a remote, but on speaking to a few people it turns out that it should arm when the drivers door lis locked and unlocked. However this dosent happen. Ive had all the door panels off and i cant seem to see a switch that would activiate when the key is turned, so im at a bit of a loss as to why it dosent set. On inspection of the siren itself there is a rubber sheath (ooh err missus) on the back. Remove this and there you have a plug in wiring loom, a sensitivity switch and most annoyingly of all a lock that needs a little round key (bit like a locker key in the swimming pool) I unplugged the loom and behold, the car wouldnt start. Which means that the alarm is still live and the immobiliser is working but it wont set. Does anyone know what the key hole does on the back of the alarm? I would imagine turns the unit on and off....can they be sourced from anywhere?

Any ideas much appreciated!

Cheers.

Matt.

Good to be back! cheers Dave.

Spike, ive had the 12 layers of passenger footwell out last weekend, and your right, there is something under there, but in my car anyway its the receiver box for the two movement sensors on either side of the dash. I was gutted as i thought i had found the problem!!! Alas not :(

Ill have to keep hunting me thinks!

matt,

i have a similar setup on my car.
the small key you talk about does indeed switch the alarm unit on and off,eg if you were changing the car battery, you would switch off the alarm with the key first, otherwise on connecting the new battery the alarm would go off thinming some burgular had disconnected the battery!!.

the only place you could source the key is from the alarm manufacturer-is there not a name such as scorpion or similar on a sticker on the siren unit itself or perhaps a sticker on one of your windows telling you the name of the make of the alarm.
my owner's manual black leather like pouch had some info on the alarm-do you not have access to that?

hope this of help.

Hi Sunil

Your right, its a Scorpion alarm, its plastered all over the windows and on the unit itself. I think im gonna have to contact them direct to see if anything can be done with it.

Its gonna be a trip up in the loft to find the handbook i think, as im sure i remember seeing a scorpion leaflet in there!

Oh what fun!!

You could try http://www.scorpionalarms.com/ which seems to be the the Scorpion alarms website. Would save you a trip up the loft :)

I would have of thought a phone call would get more response than an email in my experiance.

Matt,

Had same alarm and same problem on my 190E a few years back. Went to my trusted W. London alarm/ICE fitter who explained that the scorpion stuff of this era made for M-B (late 80's - early '90s) seemed only to last for 5 or 6 years and then pack up.
Replaced with a Meta alarm system which i hadn't heard of before (now quite common) and can highly recommend .Robust, relaible and not expensive.
If it's any help i too couldn't locate the on/off alarm switch - it turned out to be hidden in a corner of the dash under the steering column - v. far back.
