hey guys,
i have an 86 190 e 2.3 l in America. it has about 230,000 miles on it. it runs really great. but when i am idling it idles irratically, and goes up an down a lot. i am getting really bad gas mileage too.
is it that my idle value control is going bad.
also when i start my engine it make a funny noise underneath my car. kind of a rattling noise. but after a while of driving it goes away.
help me guys. i do not want to sell this car.
thanks guys.

The funny noise could be your catalytic converter. I'm assuming that yours had it fitted for the more stringent demands of the US legislation. Or it could be baffles in your exhaust working loose. The lambda probe could account for the funny idle characteristics. Probably best to have someone who knows his way around a Merc have a look-see.
