when i pull away from a standstill/low speed with the steering wheel turned to the left (doesn't matter how little/much), i hear this sort of graunching noise coming from (i think) the RH front wheel ... anyone know what this might be? was wondering if it's the wheel bearing?

well ... cause of noise not found by mechanic. so it's a bit of a lottery. could be lower balljoint, could be antiroll bar bushes. could just be something rubbing somewhere (spalsh plate on disc?) ... truth is i don't know, but a search on google reveals a lot of similar gripes - without many concrete solutions.

not sure what to do. the noise only comes when under power, so i suspect gearbox/propshaft. but then i'm a pessimist.

any news comes, i'll post it up

Cool.

Btw, I'm amazed that you have managed to keep your mileage down at 85km for 11 years!!!

Mine has done 305,000km and still going...

Cheers!

A diesel
The car is rear wheel drive so doesn't have CV joints and boots on the front.

The noise sounds like the wheel bearing may be loose allowing the brake disk to rub on the backplate.

Update:

car was in garage today to have its gearbox filler/dipstick tube replaced (it was leaking, and replacement of o-ring did not cure it) ... anyway the replacing of the tube also cured the noise i was experiencing, so obviously they were related. unfortunately i cannot claim to understand *how*, but there you go. i'm just pleased it's done. hope this may be of use to someone else as something to check in similar circs.

I have a similar problem with my 1992 115000 mile 190e 1.8... a knocking noise. The mechanic reckons it could be the wheel bearing in the n/s rear wheel. It's booked in for a strip down next week. Hopefully it is only a wheel bearing.
Has anybody else experienced this? And if it is a wheel bearing, how much can i expect to pay?

Cheers
