Hope someone can help!

My 1992 190e (manual) has started to make some 'squeaking/screeching' noises.

These are coming from under the bonnet and only seem to occur after i have been driving for a while and when the engine is under any kind of strain i.e overtaking/going up hills. Last time it went into the garage i was told the head gasket may go soon, could this be the cause?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Some 190 owners should come on tomorrow. I cant think what your fault could be. You cant hear a head gaskit, and you cant think it will be going soon, that is not on.

What does this mean, Television?
Malcolm is saying that some owners of Mercedes 190 series cars should be on the forum today and be able to give boston some advice with regard to his problem.

Thanks everyone.

I will go and check this tomorrow and let you know.

Thought after 310,000 miles it may have been finished!

I completely agree with Mike. Sounds like the belt is slipping under load.
Nothing to do with distributor change I think. You'll probably have to tighten belt up or change it, but if so get Haynes manual and follow instructions on how to do that as you can damage the tensioner if you don't do it in the right sequence.
