Does any of you fellow merc fans know how I can undo a badly rounded off sump drain plug?
Also is it common for the 190 on a cold start to hear the odd valve lifter have a few noisey taps then disappear?
Hence the urgent oil change :!:
Thanks in advance!!

You could try a couple of things that have worked for me.
File some flat sides on the sump plug, or if you have the space drill a hole through the side of the plug, put a metal dowel through the hole and turn, or cut a slot in the plug head and use a large screwdriver to undo it.
Good luck!

No way on this earth will you loosen a sump plug on a merc with a screwdriver. Best bet to loosen it is a turbo socket, these are used for undoing rounded nuts & bolts. Or use a pair of, vice grips or hammer a smaller socket on to it taking care not to damage the sump or tack weld a socket onto it Hope this helps

The lifter may be dirty... but they are cheap and easy to replace.

I agree with 190 about spot welding an old socket or spanner onto the rounded off nut. A bit extreme maybe but it will work and it gives you the excuse to spend £50 on a cheap arc welder. (just remember to disconnect the car battery first)
