I've just purchased a 190e (auto). which had an erratic tickover when warm, and was also difficult to start when cold. I have just changed the ovp relay which fixed the tickover problem, however the car still turns over a while before starting from cold (starts instantly after that). Can anyone advise ? new ht leads fitted and dist. cap looks ok.

Change spark plugs. Then if no improvement I would change distributor cap and rotor arm. If that fails must be something like cold start valve, temp sensor or something like that faulty.

Your cold start valve is accuated by the ignition switch.

190e oil pressure

What should the oil pressure be on a 190e, 2.0 auto at warm tickover?
thanks

Hi,
sure I read somewhere that there is some form of electrical / fuel program in the injection setup on a 190e that delays the starting of the engine so it doesn't fire on the first revolution of turnover.....don't ask me why, but I am sure I didn't dream it!.
My '86 190e fires, on possibly, the 2nd or 3rd. turn.
My '88 Cosworth, however, fires instantly...so seems to contradict the above statement!.
My opinion, for what it's worth, would be to try to sustitute or test the cold start injector !.

Cold Start Probs

I have also had a very bad cold start problem with my 190. I sent the car to medway autos a mercedes dealer and they had the car for 6 weeks after changing the dist cap i stil had probs so sent it back to them they have now changed the fuel pump relay and all is running well. So you may want to try that just like you i had changed every thing i could think of leads, ovp relay, spark plugs you name it. Anyway good luck.

Hi
i've changed the plugs, Dist Cap and Rotor arm this morning and the car started instantly, despite having been stood for a full week !!
Replacement OVP relay also fitted, warm erratic tickover problem also sorted !!
Replacement Heater blower fitted (eventually) no more blowing fuses on 'max' !!
thanks to everyone for their advice.
