190E Rear Door Won't Open-Advice?

Drivers side rear on my '89 190 won't open from inside or outside-i think the connecting rod has broken or droppd off. Cannot get the doorcard off, as I need the door open. Tried sticking a wire down between the glass & door, but as I don't know what I am trying to pull up, or where it is located to do, it doesn't work.

Anyone know what I should do, or where a decent Merc independant or bodyshop is in Essex? It's infuriating, as although I don't often take passengers, i do want to che=uck all my bags on the rear seat!

hi
romove the outer window trim (along the bottom of window) the be prepared to spend many happy hours with a piece of welding rod or wire coathanger. once the door is open its easy to remove the door card & repair the problem.(likely to be broken plastic retainer clip)
