hi, new to the forums, just hopin someone may be able to help me
ive recently bought a 1986 mercedes 190e auto as a project car and its got a really annoying issue, i owned the car 4 years ago and remeber how well it ran, now ive bought it back it runs terrible!
basically, the car seems struggling when hot, when you floor it the car is really struggling to accalerate, altho it seems to rev up nice in neutral.
ive tried plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, new emmisions screw and adjusted mixture, fuel filter and air filter but all ive managed to get it to do is run better when cold, the faults concequences have become more obvious however, as the car runs pretty much spot on now when cold, but still terrible when hot, its not overheating though. to drive, it really struggles to accelerate in any gear, as if something is holding it back, plus i cant help thinking its using alot more fuel than it should
so, do you reckon that it could be something to do with the automatic choke? could it be that once the engine is warm a sensor isnt working that would normally tell the choke to turn off, and hence it drives good cold but poor hot? could it be an idle control valve or cold start valve thats not operating?
we've had the fuel tank out and run it empty so could that be the cause maybe? altho we have changed the filter since, thinking this could be our mistake.
had all the plugs out and they seem to be fine, checked the sparks too.
thankyou for your time,
pete
