I have an '85 190E 2.0 l. The a/c compressor has siezed and the a/c clutch bearing has collapsed (yea, all at once) and with one big belt around everything I'm going nowhere. To get around while I wait on A/C parts I wanted to run a shorter belt. The existing belt is a 6PK1980 (1980 mm long) - does anyone know the length of belt required for this model without a/c?

Maybe you could use a bit of string to getthe approx size.

inside of belt around left of crank pully towards bottom
to bottom and right of steering pump
accross the top to top of water pump
around left of alternator
back to bottom of water pump
inside of belt over top and right around tensioner
finishing top of crank

I solved problem with piece of string as Pascal suggested and fitted 1880 mm belt and I'm mobile again. I since found factory spec is 1885 mm - so what.

Re Nicky's comment, as its a bit warmer here in Aus than the UK no non-AC mercs are not sold here and the local dealer had no info re non-AC belt length.
