Hi,

I have had an intermittent problem with my 190E and I hope that i will eventually find the solution on this forum. Its already cost me an arm and a leg to try and sort the problem out without any success.
The symptom is that when i am driving along with my foot off the gas pedal or when i am coasting to a stop, the revs will be fluctuating over and below the 1 mark, before dying altogether and the car stalls. This will only happen when the foot is off the gas, and as i said the problem is intermittent. It will probably happen about once a journey.

Things i have had done to fix the problem :-

had the KE system checked for electrical fault
new distributor and engine tune
new plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter

interestingly, whn i added an injection cleaner to a full tank of fuel, the problem went away, but as soon as i refilled the tank the problem came back.....

Alas, the problem is there.

If anyone at all has had a similar problem and were able to find the solution I would be most grateful if you could post it here.

sajid,

the ovp relay controls the voltage to important components such as the the abs system and idling circuits.
D
Does your abs light come on when it shouldn't?-this could point towards a faulty ovp relay or its fuse.

this relay usually has one or two fuse on top of it-i would check the fuses first-

in my car 190e-1.8-the relay is located behind the battery ,and behind the black plastic cover, the fuse on the relay usually blows if the the car has been jump started incorrectly or the circuit overloaded.

in my car,i had a look at the location of the relay,it is easier to access once the battery is out of the car.- i do not know whether the same is true for the 2 litre 190e.

hope this helps

With regards the OVP relay, you said that an indicator of wether or not this was at fault might be if my ABS light came on needlessly. I can say that that does not happen, so perhaps there are other symptoms ???

Also, i forgot to mention that another thing I have done which did not solve the problem was to have a new battery put in.

you could do a search on www.mboa.co.uk or mercedesshop.com(usa merc forum site-loads of posts).

press the search tab-enter keyword as "stalling" and you may find a post from someone with similar symptomsa and hopefully a cure :)
