i have a 190e,petrol,2.0,auto,1992.i only use this car about 5-6 times a month.it has become more and more difficult to start.it can take upto 30mins to get it going.it makes a strange noise from the air flap and sometimes pops, backfires from exhaust.it seems as if it is overfueling.once running it will mess about and kangeroo for a bit.once on the open road it goes great, its economical and will hold 80mph+no prob.if left for upto 24hours it will restart without fuss.if left longer it will become a problem.also it now will not always tick over when cold.if it dies out, restarting becomes almost impossible.i have had a couple of 2.0litre injected mercs before and they also would become tricky to start if left for long periods, but never like this one.it seems to me that this could be a common prob.asked at a couple of garages but nobody seems to know or want to get involved with it.i,m currently on a limited budget so i cannot afford main dealer prices.i have been told it could be the air idle control valve causing the prob but 190e,s are very hard to find in the scrapyards.seems they,re all being brought for export.if any member could help me with this frustrating problem i would be very greatfull.many thanks...ps-it now only fires but wont start anymore.
