I went off for a jaunt on a sunny winter's day last January, tried to open sunroof forgetting there was still a layer of frozen snow all over my roof. I pressed the switch and heard a sort of 'farty' noise coming from above. Needless to say, it didnt open. I thought "Nevermind, it'll probably be ok after everything thaws out".
Alas, it still makes the farty noise and wont open. It will tilt slightly though (then fart when it reaches the limit of the tilt).
Have I buggered it up? can it be fixed? -it sounds to me as if some sort of worm/cog bit has just popped out.
Cheers.

Your Mercedes
c238,w120 (diesel)
try opening it manually to see whats the story, on my old 190d (now sold) the sunroof failed altogether, but i was lucky that the fix for me was easy

I located the motor for the sunroof in the left hand side of the boot (behind the boot lining) and there is what looks like a metal crank attached to it, i cranked it over and back and round and round and after a while hit the sunroof button again, this time (and ever since then) it worked

worth a try at least !
