Now that the rainy season is giving way to the cold-and-rainy season, I've discovered that my Windscreen Wiper now only has one speed. Turning the switch to select the fast speed has no effect.  I have greased the spindle (as per one of Andy's previous responses). The wiper seems to function well, not sluggish or straining in any way. It just doesn't do fast any more. Is there a relay anywhere that could have failed?

If you have a single wiper, at its base is a grey metal cover about 6" x 4" over the gears which control the up and down motion. I don't know if you have tried this, but if you lever up the cover gently and spray in liquid grease or WD40, that can lubricate the gears and the part of the spindle inside the cover. It worked on my 1990 190E, after I burnt one wiper motor out and nearly burnt another! It does not refer to this as a service item in the manual, I got it from another forum.

The relay is at the back of the fuse box, a large black relay. It also controls the indicators
