My 1972 350sl is showing its age with rust starting to appear at the bottom of the rear wings (corrugated bit just above the sill).Dose anyone know where I could find repair panels for these areas as it would be a lot of work and expense to replace the full wing for such a small area of rust.
I am also looking for chrome caps to top of B posts and nearside half chrome bumper.

The engine fitted to my car seems to be one out of a 116 model, was this a less powerful engine than the original and does anyone know why the engine races very high when cold?

Any comments/suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Regards
Mike

Hig Revs when cold

Hi Mike,

Your Auxiliary Air Valve's thermostat might have seen better days! The thermostat's wax tends to get stuck for longer period and/or the piston spring gets weaker and leaves the valve fully open which would rise the engine RPM to about 1800/2000 revs. The only suggestions, if this is the cause, is to replace it.
