1975 350SL- Missing knobs...

Hi guys, I have a 1975 350SL and I have a couple of minor things I would like to sort on it if possible as i'm intending on sellling it this summer (anybody interested?).

First of all, in the centre console below the radio is a button. Well, at least there should be a button, but as you can see from the pic below its missing. Does anybody know what it is (was!) for and does anybody know where I can get a replacement? It doesnt have to work- I just want it to look tidier. Car doesn't have a heated rear screen by the way. Also, the plastic on the left hand heater control surround disentegrated today whilst i was cleaning it. Where can I get one?

Secondly, the black plastic knob to adjust the seat recline is missing off the passenger seat. Anybody know where I can get one of these and, indeed, if I can just stick a new knob on or whether it requires the whole mechanism to be replaced?

If anybody has either of these as a spare or knows where I could get one I would appreciate it greatly!

the missing button isnt a button. it is the illuminated 'DEF' sign.

i think its part number A1078330173 (def sign) - £56.08 (eek - get a 2nd hand one!!)

and the seat part is:

A0009180336 (covering) £6.73

and possibly A0009181526 or A0009180826 £20 but looks like u may already have this part.


A1078350521 is the left heater part you say has disintegrated £23.82

you can get the 10% from inchape; ordering from here:

or you can get 10% off from a dealer by joining the official mercedes club - well worth it.

the DEF thing is purly a visual thing - it is illuminated but isnt a button. basically informs you to have both heater controls set to the highest level for defrosting the screen.... here is a pic:

From viewing that pic which is an older SL same as yours you may need a slightly different DEF part. the dealer will be able to let you know though if you go to order it specific for your chasiss. i'd bet money the newer one will fit yours anyway
