Can anyone help with suggestions of remedies, or a workshop, to help a friend of mine with a 1977 240D with a sluggish auto box, I suspect the torque converter. My knowledge is of another German marque with a flat 4 engine! and as he lives in rural Northern France he doesn't have easy access to expertise. Over the last few years the car has not had many long runs, it only has 58000k on the clock, and this may have exacerbated or caused the problem. Thanks VG

Hello and welcome to the MB forum,,I doubt that the fluid in the box has ever been changed, why not do it along with the filter

Sluggish in what sense?

The car is slow to move away, and accelerates poorly.

or

Slow to engage a gear with lots of slip from the transmission?

Thanks very much for this information I will pass on suggestion to change fluid if it has not already been done. The sluggishness is on the engage and there is slippage
