1979 350 SL Hood Release Problem - broken cable

I've just bought a 1979 350SL and the hood release cable has broken. Now luckily MB in their wisdom have provided a linkage mechanism for the main soft top release, but when you need to take the hard top off, you need to use the cable to unlock it.

I've managed to get it off with plyers, so imidiate problem resolved. However, my new problem is that I can't see where it fits on so that I can attach a new cable. Does anyone have any ideas of where this goes? A photo of the mechanism with the cable attached would help me enormously if anyone could provide that.
