Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have just purchased (in the UK) a 'barn find' 1980 450 SLC which needs complete restoration and I'm hoping that some of you can help me locate any necessary parts that I may need? Also grateful for any help with engineers, etc that may be able to help in the Oxfordshire/Berkshire area? Any other advice would be most welcome as this my first restoration! I would like to keep it as original as possible but do you recommend any 'modern' upgrades such as wheels, braking systems, etc? Look forward to receiving your expert help in due course.

Welcome to the forum.

Mercedes classic parts will be useful, as will ebay UK and Germany.

Pics, Pics, Pics - we love pics.

Hello and welcome
I've worked on a few of these in the past can rust badly on the bulkheads.
Good to see another enthusiastic MB owner :)

As far as I am aware this car has not run for a decade or more.
I am thinking that it would be prudent to flush the fuel tank and system but have never done this before so any advice would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,

It needs to go on a ramp asap to inspect thoroughly, as said above rust is a very big enemy.

I would do that with preferably someone who knows them having a look so you can have an understanding of what you have got before starting on it.
Use the best lights you can and spend some time documenting it.
Whilst you are there take plenty of good quality photos in a methodical manner.
Wheels off as well.

I would expect to spend at least half an hour.

If for nothing else you can start your shopping list.
