1980's Mercedes SL Class

Hi There,

I'm in the market for an old 1980's Mercedes SL class (I'll admit i'm on a pretty limited budget of 5K max) and I am wondering what I should look out for when purchasig the car?

I have been told the following which I don't know if it is true or not.

1) on Cars this old there is likley to be a fair degree of internal welding at the budget I am looking at.

2) all these old SL have a slight problem of rain water leaking through the air vents.

Are the above points true and is there anything else I should be looking out for? (What's a London job for example!!)

Any advice is much apprieciated.
