Our auto box has suddenly started slipping in 2nd & 3rd and won't go up to 4th at all. Other threads found here on a search mention the vacuum connection and, coincidentally :?: , our central locking has always been flaky (one day it works, the next it doesn't). Having said this, it's the first time we've had problems with the gears in 8 months of ownership.

Can anyone point to likely things to check/adjust on the box - I understand there's an adjustment to the vacuum somewhere. I'm a competent mechanic but lack precise info on the system as the Haynes manual is woefully lacking in detail.

All and any comments appreciated. This is a 110 engine, BTW.

Having recently had problems with 5th gear not engageing on the box I ended up having it rebuilt. (165K on the old box)

I did consult a number of garages and also asked about these threads on the vacume hoses etc with no joy. They (George Fraser in London) were able to connect to a diagnostic tool that identified the problem.

It may be worth your while having it checked in this way before you spend a lot of time and energy looking for other reasons.

On a more lighter note the rebuilt box is sooooo smooth it was almost worth it
