1983 W123 230TE, best engine oil? brake fluid?

hello,

I'm new to owning my W123. Just wondering if there is any recommendation on the best fluids for the old girl, or whether the stuff at halfords is ok?

To be fair, anything fully synthetic, 10w40, would far more advanced than was specified for it at the time. The only issue is ZDDP content. IF you want something good overall, Shell Helix ultra 5W40 would do well for that engine.
