Hi all,
This is one of my old cars which is not in use at the moment(not forgotten) but it had a horrific gear change through the gears of the auto box(that way when I bought it for 70quid). If I used the accelerator correctly(little nack I had to preform to stop me getting whiplash) she would change with only half the jerk. Correct level of ATM in her.
Not an urgent post, more a curious one.
Thanks
Mike

Whiplash

I had this problem on my W124 300TE, not necessarily the same but the below worked perfectly on mine and must be worth a go on yours.

It appears that mine (and others I am later informed) don't like to have the ATF topped up to MAX, this seems to cause the neck snapping you are experiencing. It did however work perfectly when the ATF level was adjusted to halfway between the MIN and MAX. Sounds odd I know but it worked on my car.

Good luck

Have a similiar problem on my W124 230TE changing up when accelerating hard. Been like this since I had the car. Weekend just gone having power loss problems (see seperate thread). Could this neck jarring change and my power loss problems be related? Any body any ideas?. Last time I checked fluid about 4-6 weeks ago it was definitely at the max level. Yet to check again due to other commitments but weekend looking busy on this one........

Could it be a leak in the vacuum system? If the central locking works fine, or has already been blocked off, then it could be something to try...

I've had a similar problem with my 230TE for the last year.
I also suspect the pressures are too high, but cannot get any info on how to check them and what they should be?
However, I posted before about this, because I did find one thing that helped....changing the Lambda sensor.
The Lambda sensor is connected to the gearbox control, so that the engine is forced to hold onto lower gears longer when cold. This helps to heat up the Cat faster. On mine it did help to soften the changes, but didn't cure the problem. I bought an after-market one although not from GSF as they didn't stock one. Easy to fit and also seemed to run nicer with better economy, so maybe worth a go anyway. I'll check the maker and post again.
Anyone know how to check the pressures?

old topic was "does exhaust sensor effect gearbox"
the one I bought was from a local autofactor, on the shelf for £33, made by Commercial Ignition in Nuneaton Part # XLOS103.

Thanks for the tip, it's worth a go, changing this 'Lambda Sensor'. Exactly where is it located and how easy is it to get to? Is it the same thing as a Vacuum Chamber Control? :D
