Occasionally the poor old thing lets out an embarassing "blue fart" from the exhaust
There seems no particular instance for it to occur, like a trailing throttle or long idle times.
Its not eating oil either I have hear that the 6 cylinder was prone to valve guide and guide seal wear, but it has had a recon cylinder head by the PO only 25k miles ago
THe only thing I have noticed is there is a lot of "Plumbing" on the intake side, I asume this is crankcase breather /flame trap et al with vacuum controlled diaphram valves - does this need cleaning out on a regular basis
Appreciate your comments

I think its quite a simple job to unbolt the breather to clean it, they do fill up, I had to do mine to get it through the test on that engine. If it has never been cleaned it will be full of the old type oil crud.

Do you do few high speed/long runs? The only comparison I can offer is that our '95 4 litre cherokee, when the old gal is taken on a long run >1.5hrs where the ave speed is > say 50mph, lets go a similar 'fart'; this leaves an oily residue all over the back of the truck. I have been reliably informed that this is nothing untoward and is as a result of her having a 'good blow through' after slow/shorter runs
