I am thinking about purchasing a 1986 Mercedes-Benz 250d but have a few questions and concerns to ask about first.  The car has 128000km on it and is white.  It is selling for $9900 Canadian.  I am a little concerned about its age.  There is no rust on it and looks to have been well kept.  How much longer would this car last?  Is there anything that is prone to go wrong with this model and year of mercedes?  If something were to go wrong, what would the price be to fix it compared to other vehicles?  Do mercedes parts cost more money than other car parts?  Anything else i should know about it?

Thanks

Hi Burner
I own a 1988 ,124-200 which i bought 10 yrs ago with 46000 mile on the clock it now reads 160000 & the only costs to me have been fuel, oil , & tyres plus one track rod ball joint, that cant be bad &. I believe speaks for itself.
Yes parts can be expensive ,depends on where you buy from in UK . MB main dealers often have bargains available. I never ever buy non-Merc parts unless as fitted as original eguipment  eg(a t e  brake parts)
Out of over30 cars owned since 1960 I am confident the Merc has been the most enjoyable, reliable, safe,& cost effective.

I posted this in the tech forum in answer to a post re Diesels, but its relevent to you as well.

On the subject of Merc taxi's in the cannaries, we go to Fuerteventura fairly regularly, and always use a taxi from the airport. The highest mileage i have seen recorded was 865000Km's, which according to my maths is 537000 miles. The vehicle in question was a w124 250D, which really pleased me, as at the time that was what i had!!

Hope this helps.
