1988, 190 102 engine 2.0 carb model

Hello,

I have a 1988 190 2.0 carb model 102 engine. There was a loud bang and a small amount of smoke. I turned off the engine and found a 2/3 of a bakerlite ring which is broken (part number: 1021410144) on the ground under the engine. The car will now not start. I have got good compression on all cylinders and a spark. Just wondered if you had any ideas what might be occurring?

i think it is for the cooling fan clutch, have a look in this area for any clues.
