Good Day All.

Today I went to fit my new radio with built in sat nav, only to find that the guy that owned the car before me had cut off the standard radio block, and bodged his radio in.

Can anyone here tell me what colour wire does what? so that I can then wiring in a standard ISO block.

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

Just found thease details in the haynes manual.

Brown - Ground.
Red / White - Live (12v Battery).
Black / Yellow - Switched Live (Ign).
Gray / Violet - Illumination.
Blue - Remote to Electric Aerial.

But it does not have anything for the speakers, but that should be easy to find out.

nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
The 124 speaker wires dont form part of the wiring loom they just run from the radio up to each front speaker behind the dash, ensure they aren't trapped in the heater controls etc behind the panel atop the radio.

If you intend to replace the front speakers it can be awkward getting units that fit the space, the holes are odd ball sized for an MB specific speaker. If you wish to fit others a 100mm unit will fit if you make circular adaptor plates, mine have a cut down plastic ring made from the back half of the grilles supplied with some Sony units I purchased. The adaptors are glued into the existing aperture and the speakers bolted into them.
Estate rear speakers seem to be always door mounted there being no suitable space anywhere else.

There is a plastic cable ducting beneath the carpets in the left hand side where all the wires should run, its a front seat out job to lift the carpets in the rear.

wireman: thanks for your reply.

The new unit is in and working now, as you said the speaker wires where not apart of the main radio loom.

I found all of the wires that I was expenting to find, well all bar one, the blue wire for the remote power to the Electric Aerial.

Is this wire ment to be in the main radio loom, or is it hiding somewhere?

Best Regards.
