The car will turn over and start but not run. If I hold down the throttle I can get it to keep going albeit eratic but as soon as I lift my foot it cuts out. The car was running great until this cropped up. Rev counter is jumping about and not reading actual revs, don't know if that is anything to with it or not.

Anyone got any ideas? Any advice welcome, Thanks in advance

Had similar problems to this on other cars, not sure if same on MB. The TDC sensor picks up the timing impulse off the crankshaft and sends it to the injection ECU. On some cars, this also operates the rev counter which could explain the erratic reading. This can become damaged or magnetised and sends an incorrect signal to the engine management system. This causes the cars timing to be incorrect and the plugs to fire at the wrong time.
