1989 300SE camshaft removal.

I've been offered a 1989 300SE at a very, very reasonable price.
The only thing that is worrying me is it has a very light tapping noise at low engine speed.
Hopefully this will be a worn hydraulic tappet.
Can the camshaft and tappets be removed without removing the head?
I'm pretty sure it's the single camshaft engine.
