1989 300TE Where is and how do I get to the fitting that seems clogged? I follow the hose from the resivoir upwards and it disappears into the post where the rear seatbelt is attached. Then if I open the washer jet the hose come there. But in between there is a fitting or something. If I blow with my mouth with both of the hose ends open air flows only a little.

Aha, a subject I know quite well, after owning 2 of these, and both of them having broken wash wipes.

First of all, don't try to repair the hosing, just replace it. Buy some of the hose from Halfords or similar. The hose runs from the bottle, up the C post, into the roof behind the headlining on the RHS of the car as you sit in it, there is a junction in the hose here, both of my cars leaked the washer fluid from here. This floods the roof lining and will make a real mess of the carpets and trim. The hose then passes through the top right of the tailgate via a rubber gaiter, into the top of the tialgate and along its upper most edgde to the jet nozzle.

You will have to remove the plastic trim in the rear roof section, pull the headling back so you can gain access to the hose. A tip here.... Use Gaffa tape to attach the new hosing to the old hose. Then as you pull the ld hose out, you will drag thje new hose in and not have the nightmare of trying to thread the new hose into the limited space available.

If you can get away with using one length of hose from the bottle to the nozzle, you will save having to make sure the 2 joits do not leak. I forgot to mention that thereis another joint inside the tailgate, between the nozzle and the rubber gaiter.

Best of luck!

Washer Hose

Hi!

The joint in the top of the tailgate is a one way valve! God knows why its needed. The rubber on the outside perishes and it loses the vacuum and the doesn't work it just blocks the the water from going anywhere. This then backs up to the joint at the the rear of the headlining and pees every where!

I got a normal joint out of a scrapped W123 estate and used that in its place. Only problem was the hose won't reach so I will have to take all the trim off the rear drivers side in the boot and pull the hose through. There seems to be an excess in the side compartment next to the bottle.

This is just one of many idiotic pieces of design in these cars. Great when they work but ludicrously awkward to fix. In many ways they really are crap! I am getting increasingly frustrated with stupid niggly problems on mine. Mechanically its great and straightforward enough to repair if it does break but the quality in certain areas really isn't there.

Hope this helps!!!
