1989 MERCEDES-BENZ G-WAGEN 300GD M2 what petrol engines can I put in instead?

I have just bought this today, I am keen to replace the diesel with a modern petrol engine... Is this possible, has anybody done this, knows of a place and what can be done?

Definitely possible. As is putting a V12 600 engine in a W201. But is it viable? Is it cost-effective? Is it even desitable?

Without being too personal, "Are you very wealthy with a whim?" Or is there another motive?

In your shoes, I'd be looking to find one with a petrol engine.

Just foolish, I bought at an auction, I love 80s cars and have always wanted a g wagon. I have 3-4k I just need to know I am in good hands and not getting ripped off, so recommendations... a newer diesel is an option if cheaper... I cant keep breathing in the black cloud.
