R12 isn't available, unless someone has a stock of it?
You have two options.
1). Convert the car to R134a gas, which will require system flushing, new oil, new receiver dryer and if done properly new seals. This will not work as efficiently as the old gas, but is the 'official' option. The performance can be improved by changing the compressor and condenser, but this will add to the cost.
2). Find someone who will put in an R12 replacement, there are many names and brands. I am not going to recommend for or against this option, it's an emotive subject and people get upset easily these days. The only point I will make, is that financially, this will be your cheapest option.
Find an independent aircon man, see what he offers you.
Ask yourself how long you want to keep the car? The R134a retrofit can work very well if done properly, but most people don't do it properly, they don't flush the system of old oil and change the required components.
I had R49 replace R12 in my 300CE. It has worked fine for the last year. I can't see why I would want to run R134a with all the seal changes required. Every joint has a seal, so you will end up rebuilding ther entire a/c system.
